7-Year-Old Girl Launches Clothing Store In Montclair, N.J.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- It's never too early to make your dreams come true -- just ask a 7-year-old New Jersey girl who just launched her own clothing store featuring her own designs.

Savannah Smith is already ahead of many adults in the business world.

With the help of her family, she is launching "Go Bananas" this weekend in Montclair.

An early artist, Savannah started designing and sewing clothes at 4 years old, CBS2's Ali Bauman reported. With her mother's encouragement, she kept at it.

This year, the whole family helped create a business model.

"She sketches everything onto the paper, and then we upload it to a software, and then the software fine-tunes everything, and then after that she goes to the fabric store," Savannah's mother, Jessica Smith, said.

Anyone can visit the store and design a custom made T-shirt using the in-house heat press.

The 7-year-old makes most of her clothes in her father's print shop. She also has a team of four seamstresses that help her.

While most second graders are learning math in the classroom, Savannah's learning to count her hard earned cash.

"We're going to finish the store and we're going to make everyone proud," she said.

Her parents say with a little encouragement, children are limitless.

"Parents, if you see the children and they have a passion for something -- fashion, you know if it's basketball, anything -- just encourage them," her mother said.

T-shirts will range from about $15 to $30, but watching the young entrepreneur in action will be priceless.
