Yankees To Retire Jeter's Number, Unveil Monument Park Plaque May 14
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Considering 21 other Yankees have had their numbers retired, it was only a matter of time before Derek Jeter's No. 2 was honored, too. Now we know when that will happen.
The Yankees announced Tuesday that Jeter's number will be retired and his Monument Park plaque will be unveiled May 14. The Bombers host the Houston Astros in the Mother's Day game.
"The Captain," who retired after the 2014 season, played all 20 of his big-league seasons with the Yankees. He leads the team all-time in hits (3,465), games played (2,747), doubles (544) and stolen bases (358).
In 2015, the Yankees retired the numbers of Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte.
