Broncos' Brandon Marshall Shares Racist Letter Mailed To Him

DENVER (CBSNewYork) -- Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall received a hateful letter mailed to him at the team's facility and then shared it on Instagram.

The letter from an unnamed person included numerous racial slurs and expletives. The sender added: "We are 'channeling' hard hit for you!! Something to make you an invalid in a wheel chair!! Hha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!"

Marshall, who is black, wrote of the letter: "The hatred by some against people of color is one of the reasons we are where we're at in the world today, and they wonder why we feel the way we do and take the stances that we take."

Marshall was among several NFL players who kneeled during the national anthem this season, following the lead set by his college teammate, Colin Kaepernick.

"I'm not against the military. I'm not against the police or America," Marshall told the Denver Post of his decision in September. "I'm against social injustice."

He ended the protest last month.

The author of the letter seemed to reference Marshall's protest.

"If you are so unhappy with America, turn in your 'millions' and move back to the jungle," the person wrote.

Denver Broncos security is investigating the letter due to its threatening language, ESPN reported.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said he became aware of the note Friday.

"Our organization is on top of it," he said after practice.

Marshall's letter was shared just days after Giants fullback Nikita Whitlock said his home was burglarized and vandalized with graffiti of a swastika, the letters "KKK" and the message "Go back to Africa."
