At Long Last, Winter Has Come

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Folks around the Tri-State area dealt with their first taste of winter Sunday, experiencing slick roads and even accumulating snow in some areas.

As CBS2's Brian Conybeare reported, the snow started falling around 5 p.m. in Washington Heights.

The fluffy stuff was a welcome sight for some New Yorkers.

"I love it," exclaimed resident Glen Brown. "It's winter, it's supposed to snow."

As the city's fleet of 689 salt and sand trucks hit the street for the first time this season, others around town had a much different opinion.

"I do not like this snow," Manhattan resident Ali el Amir said. After last year's record setting blizzard, he doesn't want to see a similar snowfall any time soon.

By 7:00 p.m., the snow had started coming down a bit heavier in the area.

In New Jersey, there were at least three accidents northbound on the Palisades Parkway between Englewood and Alpine. At this time there's no word on any injuries.

"As long as there's no black ice it's good," says Emilio Renzullo from Yonkers. "Most of us got all wheel drive anyway, you know, should be alright."

According to the National Weather Service, areas north of the city can expect up to five inches of snow overnight.
