Feds Investigate 'Non-Credible' Bomb Threat Against Newark-Bound Flight

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A threatening note that was reportedly found inside the bathroom stall of a United Airlines flight bound for Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday is being treated as "non-credible," according to the Port Authority.

Reports indicated that the note was found on United Flight 443 from San Francisco to Newark.

"There was a non-specific threat made. The FAA is handling it," Jonathan Guerin with United told CBS News.

The 139 passengers who were on board the plane landed safely at Newark Liberty International Airport, where they were met by heavy security.

"Five or six armed police officers were just waiting at the exit of the plane and about further down the jetway, there was a canine," one man said of the incident.

Law enforcement officials say the scare is one of multiple threats made against planes across the country on Saturday night.

Earlier in the evening, a bomb threat was directed at a private chartered flight carrying the Boston Celtics basketball team. The flight took off in Bedford, Massachusetts and landed safely in Oklahoma City.

"Bomb scare threat earlier.!! Never been apart of such a thing. But glad we are ok and made it to Oklahoma safely," player Jae Crowder tweeted on Saturday.

Federal investigators are now looking into whether there's a connection between the threats.
