'Hatchimals' Fly Off Store Shelves Around The Country, But Some Parents Balk At The Price

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The egg-hatched furry critters known as Hatchimals have been dubbed the 'must-have' Christmas toy for 2016.

They've sold out in stores across the country, and online. On Saturday, shoppers lined up at 10 p.m. in anticipation of a Sunday morning shipment, SI Live reported.

The New Springville Target received a shipment of 18 and allowed customers to purchase a maximum of two. With a line of over 100 people on hand, and some 200 turned away, many customers left disappointed.

Jackie from Flatbush told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria that her 12-year-old said she might like a Hatchimal for Christmas, then she found out the price - $69.99, and said 'forget it.'

"They'll play with that for maybe Christmas Day, maybe the day after and after that it'll be at the bottom of the toy box," she said.

It's just as well, Toys R Us has run out of Hatchimals, they're currently going for $100 on eBay.

John from Broadchannel said his kids don't know what a Hatchimal is, but that everything is too expensive.

"Especially for LEGO if you try to by LEGO you'll have to take out a second mortgage," he said.

He said the Christmas tab for his 5 kids is $2,500.
