NYPD Deputy Inspector Indicted In Alleged Sexual Abuse Of Officer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD deputy inspector was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on charges that he sexually abused an officer under his command.

Deputy Inspector Keith Walton, commander of the 49th Precinct, was first charged in late November with sex abuse, forcible touching, official misconduct, and harassment.

"The defendant allegedly sexually abused an officer who was under his command, in the police stationhouse where they serve and protect the public," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a news release. "By his degrading behavior, he abused the trust of his officers, as well as that of the residents of the 49th Precinct in the Bronx."

Walton had just been promoted from captain to precinct commander when he was arrested.

The 20-year NYPD veteran has been accused of ordering a female subordinate into his office on November 6, grabbing her, pulling her hair, and trying to forcibly kiss her.

Prosecutors said the woman fought back shouting, "stop, what the (expletive) are you doing, you need to stop."

When she tried to leave, Walton allegedly grabbed her again putting his hands on her genitals saying, "where the (expletive) are you going?"

Walton was removed from his post after the arrest.

Walton was arraigned Wednesday before Bronx Supreme Court Judge Steven Barrett and released, prosecutors said. He is due back in court on Feb. 7.

If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces two to seven years in prison.

Walton was in the news this past August for his big-hearted help of a 7-year-old boy who lost his parents in a murder suicide.

He arranged a surprise trip for the lad to Disney World.
