'Subway Therapy' Post-It Project To Be Preserved

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New York Historical Society will preserve New York City's "Subway Therapy" project.

Thousands of people expressed their thoughts and feelings about the future of the nation on sticky notes placed on subway walls.

Artist Matthew Levee Chavez created the project after the elections. People around the world have since contributed.

The historical society and Chavez started carefully removing the notes Friday so they can be archived for a program called History Responds.

Starting Tuesday, people can place sticky notes on a glass wall inside the historical society's entrance. That effort will continue through Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

"We collect not just the history of yesterday, but what we think will become history," museum director Margaret Hofer told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell. "This great project which really promoted dialogue and public conversation."

Chavez said his project was about "inclusion, stress relief and peaceful expression." He said it also exposed people "to opinions different than their own."

Chavez said he's thrilled it's being preserved.
