Authorities: Boy Remains Hospitalized After Stabbing At Monmouth Mall

EATONTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities say a boy stabbed during a fight at a New Jersey mall has been hospitalized with a collapsed lung.

It's not clear what sparked the scuffle that broke out Saturday night at the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown.

Cellphone video showed a group of people scuffling near the Macy's store.

Authorities say the boy remained hospitalized on Sunday. But further details on his condition were not released and his name and age have not been disclosed.

"Mall management is working closely with the Eatontown Police Department. Mall security responded to the incident immediately along with onsite uniformed police, and stores in the immediate vicinity were closed. We wish the victim a speedy recovery," a spokesperson for the mall said in a statement.

Some stores located near the stabbing scene were briefly closed Saturday night while the incident was investigated. But the mall was operating normally on Sunday.

It wasn't clear how many people were involved in the fight that led to the stabbing. But authorities say no other injuries were reported.
