Gift Wrapping Tips For Your Inner Santa

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A lot of people are stressed out about holiday shopping. For some, it's the act of wrapping the gifts that's the hardest part.

CBS2's Cindy Hsu spoke with some people about the difficulties they face year in and year out.

"I can't  get the wrapping paper right," Dannie Esposito said. "I end up ripping half of it and the corners are always messed up."

"I don't have tape sometimes and you have to improvise," Marygrace said. "I just say never mind, I'm going to find a bag."

Jake Winn from Lambent Services is a professional gift wrapper. He tells CBS2 the trick to measuring how much paper you need is by doubling the top or bottom of the gift -- always cutting a little extra.

"My dad is a contractor and he always said 'Measure twice, cut once'," he said.

According to Jake, folding the edges of the paper gives your present a sleek look.

Using a double sided tape is a way to hide the tape, and when it comes to ribbon -- measure the top of the gift and use six or seven times that amount.

Lifestyle expert Limor Suss even says you can go eco-friendly by using the gift itself as wrapping -- a bottle of wine wrapped in a scarf, for instance -- so you're giving two gifts that will definitely stand out.

If you run out of holiday wrapping paper, don't hesitate to use the back of any wrapping paper. The white wrapping can easily be spruced up with fun tape designs or colorful ribbon.
