Best Of Mike Francesa: A Heated Exchange With Ben McAdoo Over Odell Beckham Jr.

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- In a contentious interview with WFAN's Mike Francesa on Oct. 6, 2016, Giants coach Ben McAdoo repeatedly tried to steer the conversation from Odell Beckham Jr. to the upcoming game against the Packers.

But Francesa pressed the coach on how he was dealing with the excitable wideout, whose emotions had become a major distraction over the previous two weeks.

"Listen, Mike, we're talking about this thing until we're blue in the face," McAdoo said. "The more we talk about it, the more it comes up."

Francesa asked McAdoo if he had any issues with Beckham's behavior.

"All discussions between Odell and I, they stay private between ourselves," the first-year head coach said. "Listen, I've got this young man's back."

Comparing Beckham to ex-Giant Jeremy Shockey, Francesa then listed the receiver's many in-game indiscretions. The WFAN host mentioned that Annie Apple, the mother of Giants cornerback Eli Apple, wrote a column in Sports Illustrated that included a story about Beckham shouting back at hecklers at the Vikings' U.S. Bank Stadium.

"There are a lot of things being written, a lot of things being said," McAdoo said.

"Well, there's a lot of things our eyes are seeing, too," Francesa countered.

At one point, Francesa said to the coach, "I think you guys are doing a lousy job with him." Francesa added, "I'm going to gather that you condone his behavior."

McAdoo responded: "If you're willing to put words into my mouth, then you can put words in my mouth."
