NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The top dogs of competitive eating stared down the competition on Monday.

Nathan’s Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest held its ceremonial weigh-in at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

Back to defend his title of 73 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes was champ Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, who tipped the scales at 221 pounds.

“I feel like I could break that — maybe even shatter it,” Chestnut said of his record.

His closest rival and the only man to beat him in the past 10 years, Matt “Megatoad” Stonie, came in at 131 pounds.
