1-Year-Old Struck, Killed By Taxi In Monsey

MONSEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 1-year-old child was struck and killed by a taxi in Monsey late Sunday afternoon, police said.

Ramapo police were called to Johanna Lane in Monsey just before 5 p.m. Sunday. Police found a 2015 Toyota Prius taxicab being driven by a 41-year-old Monsey man had picked up a fare on the street.

He was backing away from the driveway when he struck the 14-month-old boy, police said.

The boy was a resident of the home from which the taxi fare was picked up, police said.

The baby was rushed by Hatzolah Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the cab remained on the scene, police said. The Ramapo police Accident Investigation Unit and Detective Division are investigating, and as of Sunday night, there had been no charges or tickets issued.
