12 Hurt When 2-Alarm Fire Rips Through Building In Manhattan's Little Italy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A dozen people were hurt when a fire ripped through a building in Lower Manhattan Saturday morning.

The FDNY says flames broke out at 146 Mulberry St. in Little Italy around 7:30 a.m.

The building houses Angelo's of Mulberry Street, a well-known restaurant dating back over 100 years, and apartments above.

The blaze reached two-alarms before firefighters were able to bring it under control.

Of the 12 people hurt, two of the injuries were serious but non-life-threatening.

Officials said the blaze was accidentally caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials.
