SitterCity, launched in 2001, has one of the largest databases for sitters in the United States with over 1 million sitters having joined. Parents can look for sitters through a four- step screening process and are matched with someone locally. Sitters are required to get background checks, provide multiple references and are eligible for performance-based review. Once parents have viewed a few profiles that fit their hours and needs, sitters can and should be interviewed and then considered for hire. In addition to sitters, this company provides dog walkers, tutors, nannies, and senior care services.

Smartsitting is an excellent way to find an intelligent college graduate who has a passion for teaching and learning. The philosophy of this sitting network focuses on the importance of learning new things, on a daily basis, regardless of age or capability. These skilled sitters work on confidence building, along with adding fun and excitement to each family. Parents post full- time, part- time, nights and weekends, and occasional twice a month positions in which sitters can apply. When parents join, they are assigned to a Smartsitting coordinator, which is unique to this sitting network. The coordinators are always available to arrange schedules, payments and are around to answer any questions parents may have. The cost of this varies, as sitters rates and hours all vary. Check out the numerous testimonials on this site as well!

This service requires a low monthly fee to join. Parents must send an email requesting a sitter, expecting to get a return email back within 24 hours. You will be assigned a sitter, all of whom charge the same fee- $14 for 1 child, $15 for 2 children and $17 for 3 children. All sitters are CPR certified and background checked. The website is a very comprehensive one, where you can look at sitters, FAQ's, testimonials, and more. There is a "bluemoon" service that is provided for parents who only want a sitter "once in a bluemoon."
