The Tri-State's Sweetest Deals

With Halloween fast approaching, CBSNewYork spent some time trolling Manhattan, Long Island and Northern New Jersey in search of the best deals for your holiday candy needs. Check below for the scoop on the sweets. By Shari Simpson.

Dylan's Candy Bar

1011 Third Ave. (at 60th St.)
(646) 735-0078
--or--
52 Main Street
East Hampton, NY 11937
(631)324-6181
dylanscandybar.com

Yes, it's over-exposed in the press, yet, it's annoyingly celebrity-touted, but Dylan's Candy Bar is worthy of the hoopla. Big, splashy, colorful and incredibly fun, Dylan's has over 5,000 kinds of candy, and most importantly for the Halloween set, over 300 types of bulk candy. It also has an impressive display of Spooky Sweets...our favorites being The Blood Bar (filled with red caramel) and The Eyeballs and Fingers Candy Collection.

Economy Candy Market

108 Rivington St.
New York, NY 10002
(800) 352-4544
economycandy.com

The absolute antithesis of Dylan's Candy Bar, Economy Candy is not particularly organized, much more economical and completely wonderful. We love the casual attitude, like the stacks of candy with little hand-written index cards saying 4 for a buck. For you Halloween candy-givers on a budget, a10 lb bag of assorted mini chocolate bars goes for $24 and a 10 lb party mix candy bag for $18.

The Sweet Life

63 Hester Street
New York, NY 10002
(212) 598-0092
sweetlifeny.com

The Sweet Life is a family-owned candy and gourmet chocolate retail shop that's been a landmark on the historic lower east side since 1982. The store's motto is "anything can be dipped in chocolate" (we at CBS New York firmly hold to this philosophy!) and the chocolate machines on site can deliver on this lofty promise. Seasonal find: the pumpkin pie fudge. Divine.

The Candy Store

41A Main St.
Port Washington, Long Island, NY 11050
(516)708-9581
thecandystoreonmainstreet.com

This bright yellow Candy Store on Main Street has a wide variety of bulk candy and vintage candy and a fun quirk that fits right in with Halloween: if you eat a chocolate-covered worm or chocolate-covered cricket, you can get your picture up on the shop's "Factor of Fear" wall.

Hoboken Candy Shoppe

59 4th Street
Hoboken, NJ 07030
(201) 222-6872
hobokencandy.com
A candy store with a sense of humor (the website displays quotes like "I want to have a good body, but not as much as I want dessert"), Hoboken Candy Shoppe is small and charming and packed with bins of nostalgic candy. We definitely want to hand out chocolate and hazelnut "Ice Cubes" for our Halloween trick-or-treaters. (Photo credit: Jane Quigley Photography).

Dulce Candy Boutique

17 Church Street
Montclair, NJ 07042
(973) 509-2221
dulcenj.com

This is a fun place to visit even if you're not going to dig into their assortment of homemade treats. Chocolate-covered Oreo graham crackers, anyone? With a wide variety of candy (including the ones that your mom and dad used to talk about back in the day), this reasonably-priced store has friendly customer service and a big "YUMMY" sign on the wall. What a great way to round out your Halloween-candy-buying experience.

It'sugar

The Arches at Deer Park
1438 The Arches Circle
Deer Park, NY 11729
(631)242-6040
shop.itsugar.com
It'sugar is a candy store chain that has recently added Long Island to its sweet sweep. Gigantic and bright, it has a great Halloween candy display, including a see-through lollipop with an edible scorpion inside. They have a wide selection of their own brand of candy (with fun irreverent names like "Chew This" and "Birthdays Don't Have to Suck" lollipops) as well as a good assortment of bulk candy for your Halloween pleasure.
