Brian Carey currently anchors weekday afternoon drive, Top of the Hour (3 p.m.-6:30 p.m.) 30-minute newscasts. He has been a popular voice on WINS for more than a decade — most of that time anchoring either morning or afternoon drive.
Brian has been doing news since he was a teenager. But he will readily admit he got that first job at WNAK in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania not so much because of his talent but rather because he agreed to also cut the grass.
He was hired as a part-time reporter at WBRE TV, The NBC Affiliate in Wilkes-Barre while still a student at King’s College. And while still in his twenties was the News Director at WILK Radio in Wilkes-Barre. From there he went to Susquhanna Broadcasting’s WARM Radio where he anchored the Five O’Clock PM News hour…and was the morning anchor on MAGIC 93 FM.
He began his major market radio news career in the late 80s… anchoring at WPEN in Philadelphia… and later anchoring morning drive AT WWDB-FM the Talk Station in Philadelphia…where he was also the Executive Producer.
Since 1996, Brian has been living and working on the air in New York CIty. He is a former News Bureau Chief at Metro Networks where he was heard on WOR before joining the 1010 WINS News Team in 2000.
In 2005, Carey won the Achievement in Radio (A.I. R) Award for Best News Anchor in New York City and A First Place Associated Press Award for Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast.
In 2006, his college alma mater, King’s College awarded him with the Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement.
Listeners across the country can also hear Brian Carey anchoring ABC News on the ABC Radio Networks.
