I’m what you call a “map geek”. Highway maps or hiking maps, I love using a map to find my way. So it’s no surprise that I enjoy talking about highways, bridges and tunnels all day. Plus it really makes me feel good to know that I’m helping motorists get from Point A to Point B as quickly as possible. Being a “country boy” from northwest NJ (land of woods, mountains, lakes, and black bears), I never would have thought I’d know every twist and turn on the Cross Bronx, L.I.E., B.Q.E., and every other highway in the tri-state area just as well as I know the local roads near my house.
It’s an honor to share the airwaves with such an incredibly talented on-air staff. And on occasion, I get to do what I love most: flying in Chopper 880 for Tom Kaminski (the best traffic reporter in NYC!) when he goes on vacation. Nothing beats getting that bird’s eye view. Looking down on all those highways is just like looking at a gigantic map…. except the names of the highways aren’t written down. And when I’m not talking about traffic, I’m enjoying the great outdoors.. camping, hiking (w/ Wayne Cabot), backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, etc.
