Derricke Dennis joined CBS 2 News as a reporter in 2010. He reports breaking news stories and major events from throughout the tri-state area for CBS 2 News at 5, 6 and 11 p.m.
Among his assignments, Dennis led the station’s coverage of a missing college student from Westchester who vanished from Indiana University, filing live reports on her disappearance from Bloomington, Indiana. When a New Jersey teacher was suspended for posting on Facebook her personal feelings against a school display on same-sex relationships, she and her husband gave Dennis an exclusive interview.
Dennis spent six years as a lead reporter and substitute anchor for WDIV-TV, Detroit’s NBC affiliate, where he was recognized for his weeklong coverage of the death of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, and for his reporting on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. He also served as a weekend anchor in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and as a reporter in Richmond, Virginia. He was most recently a reporter and anchor for News 12 New Jersey.
Dennis is a New Jersey native who grew up in Atlantic City. He’s a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in journalism from the prestigious John H. Johnson School of Communications.
He is also a proud member of the Newark / Essex County, New Jersey chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
