Emily Smith joined CBS 2 in April 2011 as a general assignment reporter.
Smith joined the station after spending a year as a business reporter for CBS MoneyWatch as well as a fill-in anchor on CBS News’ “Up To the Minute”. Previously, she served as a Long Island reporter for WABC-TV for three years.
Smith has covered a variety of stories, her favorite being the miraculous landing of Flight 1549 in the Hudson River in January 2009. Smith interviewed some of the emotional passengers.
Smith grew up on Grand Island, a suburb of Buffalo, NY, and spent time working upstate before coming to New York City. She started her broadcasting career at Buffalo’s WBEN-AM as an anchor and reporter. She then moved to Elmira, NY to report and anchor at both WENY-TV and WETM-TV before becoming a reporter at Rochester’s WHEC-TV.
Smith attended St. Bonaventure University’s journalism school where she received the Bob Koop Award, which recognizes journalism excellence. She says she’s passionate about telling people’s stories and being a representative for the viewers.
In her spare time, she enjoys working out and being with the one thing that inspires her the most: her family.
