Matt Ward

If it’s on the ones, it must be time for traffic and transit. If it’s the afternoon rush hour it must be Matt Ward. The veteran broadcaster has been doing traffic and transit every ten minutes on the ones on 1010 WINS since 1989. During that time, many things have changed yet others have stayed the same. “Well, the BQE is STILL jammed!”, says Ward with a laugh.

“But now I can SEE it on the 1010 WINS Jam-Cam. In 1989 we had no Jam-Cams, no instant messaging and very few had cell phones. Now, anytime I mention that number (1-877-466-1010), people are calling us with good, fresh information from their cars.”

But even though most of the travel news is doom and gloom, Matt doesn’t have a negative view of his job. “I like the idea of being in a position to help people avoid a jam—but if it’s too late and you’re already stuck, I hope I can at least reassure you with information about what’s causing the mess and how long will it take to get out of it.”

Matt started his broadcast career as a sports reporter at WJLK-AM/FM, Asbury Park, NJ in 1982.
