1992 Dream Team
NBA Commissioner David Stern will retire in February 2014, 30 years after he took charge of the league. He will be replaced by Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver.
The U.S. men’s basketball team defended its title by fighting off another huge challenge from Spain, pulling away in the final minutes for a 107-100 victory and its second straight Olympic championship.
David Stern may push for a change in the future that would turn the Olympics into a competition for players who are 23 years old or under, keeping older players from getting hurt and might even make the games a bit more competitive.
Overpowering and dominant in a way not seen since the 1992 Dream Team, the Americans are now two wins from a second straight Olympic gold medal. Argentina awaits.
Better than the 1992 Dream Team? Hardly. The United States Olympic basketball team appears to be like well-appointed London tourists who have first-class tickets to all the prime Olympic events.
It’s pointless to compare the 2012 Men’s Olympic basketball roster to the 1992 “Dream Team.” USA’s current roster has their own challenge in front of them.
