The hacker-activist group Anonymous said Saturday that it had hijacked the Web site of the U.S. Sentencing Commission so as to avenge the death of Aaron Swartz, the Internet activist who committed suicide in his Brooklyn home.
Hundreds of friends and supporters of Aaron Swartz are gathered in New York City to pay tribute to the free-information activist and online prodigy who killed himself last week.
The family of a co-founder of Reddit has blamed prosecutors for allegedly driving him to suicide, weeks before he was to go on trial on federal charges that he stole millions of scholarly articles.
A spokeswoman for New York’s medical examiner says 26-year-old Aaron Swartz hanged himself in his Brooklyn apartment and was found Friday.
