The budget also reflects the first of the two toll increases that took effect three years ago. Motorists will see the second increase on Jan. 1, when tolls go up 53 percent on the turnpike and 50 percent on the Garden State Parkway.
New Jersey plans to reduce the state public employee workforce by 1,200 jobs through layoffs and attrition early next year.
New York City’s Sanitation Department says it will put more workers on the streets by reassigning supervisors and adding 100 new hires for trash and snow removal.
Gov. David Paterson said plans are in the works to eliminate 2,000 jobs.
