‘End Of An Era’ As Metro-North’s Bar Cars Make Final Run

The bar cars, which have been in operation on the New Haven line since 1973, were phased out as the railroad switches its fleet over to the new M-8 cars.

As the New Haven line phases out old trains for the new M-8s, there’s fear this will be the end of the line for bar cars.

New Haven line commuters on Metro North responded to a recent survey and said in no uncertain terms: ‘keep bar cars running on the line.’
