It was opening night, so I hopped in my car and drove to the ballpark. The atmosphere was electric as the fans packed into the chilly stadium for all of the festivities. But, it wasn’t a Yankees or Mets game.
Reyes appeared in 999 games at shortstop for the Mets, second only to Bud Harrelson (1,280) for the most in club history.
In addition to telling us why he wrote his book, Harrelson talked about the magical Mets of 1969.
This past week, Jose Reyes and David Wright appeared in their 800th game together. While the left side of the infield has remained relatively stable over the past seven seasons, the Mets have had plenty of second basemen over that same span.
