William Tabert, 52, was operating a 21-foot Malibu motorboat when it struck a 50-foot sailboat that was moored and carrying a family of four.

Police said Anthony Marmo, who was operating the boat, didn’t even realize the two were overboard until they were out of sight.
Going into this holiday weekend, there will be extra eyes on roads and on the water. Police are stepping up patrols to crack down on illegal fireworks, drunk driving and boating.
