William Tabert, 52, was operating a 21-foot Malibu motorboat when it struck a 50-foot sailboat that was moored and carrying a family of four.
Suffolk County officials made a boating while intoxicated arrest Sunday night in the waters off Long Island.
“Christopher Mannino, you were my world. I was so lucky to have your children. I don’t have you now because a selfish careless person found it necessary to be intoxicated on the water and take your life,” Mannino’s widow said Thursday.
Police said Anthony Marmo, who was operating the boat, didn’t even realize the two were overboard until they were out of sight.
Going into this holiday weekend, there will be extra eyes on roads and on the water. Police are stepping up patrols to crack down on illegal fireworks, drunk driving and boating.
