The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy has called off a public contest to name a lawn in the park, following a push to name the strip after slain photographer Chris Hondros, according to published reports.
Residents of DUMBO, Brooklyn, and members of the New York photography community have launched a campaign to honor Chris Hondros, an award-winning photojournalist killed in Libya two years ago, with a lawn in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
More than 1,000 friends, relatives and colleagues filled a Brooklyn church on Wednesday at a Mass for Chris Hondros.
Chris Hondros’ photos have been seen on hundreds of stories on this site. Tim Hetherington was nominated for an Oscar for his hard-hitting documentary “Restrepo,” about the struggles of soldiers fighting at a remote outpost in Afghanistan.
