The demand has been overwhelming. Same-sex couples who want to get married Sunday — the first day it’s legal in New York — will have to enter a city lottery.
New York City officials announced Wednesday they would open their clerks’ offices in all five boroughs for a full day July 24, saying gay couples should not be made to wait one day longer to wed.
In New York City, the pre-applications for a $35 license can be submitted online on the City Clerk’s web site only.
The current form asks for one bride’s name and one groom’s name. The gender-neutral versions would allow each person to choose whether he or she is a bride, groom or spouse.
