Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been thinking big even as his time at City Hall nears its end, pushing the City Council to approve a rezoning plan that could bring a new generation of skyscrapers to the area around Grand Central Station.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority thinks there could come a day where New York, like London, has to shut down big subway stations like Grand Central because they’re just too packed with people.
A new avenue is coming to Midtown. Actually, it’s a mini avenue seven blocks long and reserved for pedestrians. And because it’s a “mini” street it’s got a “mini’ name — “6 1/2″ Avenue.
