After just two games, if you think you know what the New York Islanders are, think again. As bad as Saturday night made you feel, this team looked a lot better Monday.
The Isles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, before giving up three goals to Tampa. They hung on and won 4-3 on Martin Luther King Day.
No corner on the Islanders season has been turned just yet. However, being able to put on the brakes to this year’s losing streak is far different to last year’s spin out into oblivion. That is a clear step forward.
Matt Martin scored his second game-winning goal in his three-year NHL career, and the New York Islanders shook off a slow start and routed the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 on Tuesday night.
A week ago the Islanders season was pretty much finished. They were already over 10 points out of a playoff spot and there was nothing this team was showing you that made you think they had anything left. I thought they were cooked. I was wrong.
