So much for the Islanders standing pat at the trade deadline. The Metropolitan Division leaders pulled off four trades on Monday as they attempted to position themselves for the playoffs.
Dustin Jeffrey scored one of Pittsburgh’s three second-period goals and then had the only one in a seven-round shootout to lift the injury-depleted Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.
A visit from the NHL’s third-worst team record-wise seems like just what the Penguins need to head into the All-Star break with some momentum. The Islanders, though, haven’t exactly made things easy on Pittsburgh.
