New York Jets cornerback Dimitri Patterson says the team’s often-criticized defensive backs have a chance to “shut people up” this season.
While many of the fans continue to freak out over the Jets’ well-documented problems at cornerback, head coach Rex Ryan tried something different at practice on Monday.
Patrick, waived Tuesday by the Chargers, had a career-high 34 tackles with an interception and 1 1/2 sacks in 13 games, including four starts, last season.
Seven Jets players — including Bilal Powell and Matt Simms — are volunteering Tuesday to help spackle, sheetrock and paint the damaged St. Rose High School and Convent in Belmar, N.J.
Gone is the man considered by many to be one of the best players in team history, and perhaps the best cornerback in the NFL. But, Rex Ryan believes Antonio Cromartie can handle the load of being the main guy.
It was ugly, but the Jets survived with a victory in Jacksonville.
“I mean, I was drafted as a running back,” the former Southern California star said. “The way I took it was I wasn’t good enough to play running back. I don’t know if that’s the case or not, but that’s the way I’m looking at it right now.”
Kyle Wilson, the spotlight is yours.
As expected, Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis is back in the starting lineup after suffering a concussion in the season opener, and tight end Dustin Keller is inactive with a right hamstring injury.
Before the Jets started playing football for real this year, Rex Ryan proclaimed his defense a sure-fire, top-five group. Amazing how one injury can turn an otherwise impressive unit into a bunch of also-rans.
The Jets will face the Pittsburgh Steelers’ speedy receivers without Darrelle Revis. The All-Pro cornerback was ruled out for the team’s game at Pittsburgh on Sunday with a concussion
The Jets have now won three in a row but things are far from perfect. They still have a lot of cleaning up to do, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
