Two days after a teachers union-led protest of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s education proposals, charter school advocates are making their views heard.
It was a sea of red in Foley Square on Thursday — a message from parents and students to Mayor Bill de Blasio that they are seeing red over the poor quality of New York City public schools.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo told a massive state Capitol rally for charter schools that he’s committed to making sure they have money and a physical space to thrive.
Pupils were preparing this weekend to rally in Albany, after Mayor Bill de Blasio’s announcement this week to deny space to some charter schools.
If successful, a lawsuit by city officials and activists would be a setback for countless charter school students, some parents say.
About 10,000 people are expected to take part in the March for Education Equality, organizer Jeremiah Kittridge with Families with Excellent Schools said.
