The league sent a memo to the 32 clubs reminding them not to reach agreement with or sign any of the 2015 free agents until Tuesday at 4 p.m. EDT. The memo noted a “reported number of agreements.”
Unfortunately for fans of the New York Giants (3-6), it appears that the team will be playing out the string for the remainder of the 2014 season. This week’s opponent, the San Francisco 49ers (5-4), come to MetLife Stadium on the heels of a huge overtime victory over the New Orleans Saints.
Seattle and San Francisco have each won their home game against each other. With the rubber match taking place at CenturyLink Field, which game will be played? The blowout 29-3 Seattle win in Week 2 or the 19-17 gritty win by the 49ers in Week 14?
The San Francisco 49ers are preparing to face off with the Carolina Panthers for the second time this season, but there is a lot more on the line this time.
Two of the NFL’s most decorated franchises will meet this Sunday when the Packers and 49ers meet in a NFC Wild Card matchup. The winner will move on in the playoffs, while the loser will face a disappointing end to a season that started with much higher aspirations.
The San Francisco 49ers running back was fined $10,500 by the NFL on Wednesday after he wore his socks too low in Sunday’s NFC championship game at Atlanta, a uniform violation. It marked the second time he was fined this season.
Just remember, a reward lies at the end of this two-week bombardment.
This Super Bowl will be filled with firsts — and one significant last. The Harbaughs, San Francisco’s Jim and Baltimore’s John, will be the first pair of brothers to coach against each other in the NFL title game.
49ers rebounded from a 17-0 deficit to beat the Falcons 28-24 in the NFC championship.
Colin Kaepernick ran for a quarterback playoff record 181 yards and two touchdowns and threw two scoring passes.
You can look at the standings and get a pretty good read on the teams that are going to be in the playoffs at the conclusion of the year. But several of those teams still have a lot to prove.
Perhaps the only thing missing from this game are the stakes – it’s only the sixth week of the regular season, although it’s very possible the winner will be able to call upon this result to help gain a tiebreaker advantage for the playoffs.
As far as matching up with the Giants goes, the Niners still have to take a backseat. Here’s two good reasons: The Giants are better at the quarterback position and at the head coaching slot.
Shonn Greene is going to need to carry the ball 25 to 30 times and do for the Jets’ offense what Frank Gore does for the 49ers. It may not be pretty, but the Jets have to try to slug it out with the Niners.
If they can’t pull things together, the Jets will find themselves on “Eliminated From The Playoffs Island” a lot sooner than they thought.
