The Nassau County Legislature on Monday passed a bill that would establish an online registry of people convicted of animal abuse.
Gary Rogers with the Nassau SPCA said in the case of Miss Harper – the pit bull mix that had her leg and ears cut off – those charged were convicted of abusing another dog before that incident.
Miss Harper, now 7 months old, had her ears cut off and a hind leg amputated. She had a number of infections when she was brought in in September.
State officials said an overpopulation of the swans threatens water plants, water quality, puts planes at risk and displaces local birds.
The injured kitten was found on July 30 in Massapequa where a resident was working with All About Spay Neuter, Inc. on a Trap, Neuter and Return project for feral cats on Sunset Boulevard.
A dog that was brought to a temporary shelter in Nassau County after Superstorm Sandy is now in need of a new home as the shelter prepares to close its doors.
Nassau’s emergency pet shelter will officially close its doors Friday. But as of midnight on Monday, the pets will all be officially placed in the custody of Nassau’s SPCA.
