Wider Emergency Pull-Off Areas Under Construction On L.I.E.

The $450,000 project was approved after the death of Nassau County highway patrolman Michael Califano. The 44-year-old father of three was killed in during a routine traffic stop in 2011 along a poorly lit stretch of highway when a passing truck smashed into his cruiser.
