Harriman State Park
Haverstraw police now think the Stony Point man who allegedly killed his daughter-in-law last September and fled into Harriman State Park, could still be alive.
A 73-year-old man who disappeared into the woods after his daughter-in-law was shot to death in Rockland County two months ago stood charged with her murder Monday – although he remained missing.
Harriman State Park is vast – roughly 45,000 acres. It’s impossible close down completely. But murder suspect Eugene Palmer is thought to be hiding in the woods.
Police believe Eugene Palmer is armed, dangerous and hiding out in the sprawling wilderness of Harriman State Park, but are looking into whether someone may have picked him up and helped him escape.
Tensions mounted between Tammy Palmer and her father-in-law after she took out an order of protection against her husband barring him from the home where she was raising their two children.
Eugene Palmer, 74, is the prime suspect in the killing of 39-year-old Tammy Palmer who was found shot in the chest in the backyard of her Willow Grove Road home on Monday, police said.
The manhunt for a man suspected of killing his daughter-in-law in a Rockland County town continued Monday afternoon before being suspended for the night. The search will resume at daybreak Tuesday.
A major gift that helped to restore and preserve Rockland County’s natural beauty is being honored Friday night.
