New York City Proposing Raising Age For Tobacco Purchases To 21

On Monday it was personal. Queens Councilman James Gennaro teared up as he joined Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Health Commissioner Thomas Farley to sponsor a bill to raise the minimum age to buy tobacco products in New York City.

NYC Marks 10th Anniversary Of Anti-Smoking Initiative

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Wednesday there are about 500,000 fewer smokers in the city than there were a decade ago and about 10,000 fewer deaths linked to smoking during that period.
