Hempstead School District
A community action group has asked the Nassau district attorney to investigate allegations of corruption in the school district.
Many parents say due to the district’s extra student burden, the superintendent should first reach out to state and federal government for more funding.
Immigrant students must be enrolled in the Hempstead School District, according to an order by the attorney general.
About 1,200 new students enrolled in the system this year, and nearly three dozen others were allegedly turned away.
In a statement, district officials said they plan to discuss “actions against an employee who made multiple errors on a computer while compiling the district’s summer reading list.”
The seven-page list provided by the Hempstead School District had more than 30 errors.
