A man has been arrested and charged, after allegedly holding his girlfriend’s toddler-age son hostage as he threatened suicide in Newark, N.J.
The hostages are safe and the suspect is dead, police said.
Since Nov. 1, someone has been calling people, telling them a family member has been kidnapped, held hostage or involved in an auto accident, police said. The male caller then demands a payment, usually through Western Union, to save or help the family member.
