The suspect walked up to a man, punched him in the face and took out an ice pick, police said. He then stole the victim’s cell phone and cash and took off.
John Martinez, known as the ‘ice pick robber,’ was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to threatening and robbing women in and around Stuyvensant Town over a year ago.
It was a year ago when the ice pick robber began terrorizing women and children in the Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village neighborhoods. Now, 40-year-old John Martinez has plead guilty in five of these cases.
A person of interest in New York City’s so-called ice pick robberies is awaiting an extradition hearing in New Jersey.
