A leading Republican New York state senator from upstate has been indicted on charges that he lied to the FBI about arranging a law firm job and an inflated salary for his son.
“With the current MTA fare increase coming along, and your day-to-day expenses are going up, and your salary or income is not keeping pace at all, so at some point it’s going to break if it keeps this way,” one resident said.
Strict conflict-of-interest rules make it difficult for judges to moonlight in other legal industry jobs. But Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman agreed to loosen the rules on a case-by-case basis.
