John Martinez, known as the ‘ice pick robber,’ was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to threatening and robbing women in and around Stuyvensant Town over a year ago.
It was a year ago when the ice pick robber began terrorizing women and children in the Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village neighborhoods. Now, 40-year-old John Martinez has plead guilty in five of these cases.
A parolee already accused of wielding an ice pick in a series of robberies in New York City elevators has been charged with two more similar muggings.
John Martinez was being held on $750,000 cash bail after his arraignment early Thursday in Manhattan. He was charged with three muggings in a Manhattan apartment complex.
A person of interest in New York City’s so-called ice pick robberies is awaiting an extradition hearing in New Jersey.
