Officials: Cop Saved By Bulletproof Vest After Shootout In Hempstead

It happened around 3:22 a.m. Friday at the corner of Washington and Cooper streets. A police officer was shot twice, one of the rounds hitting his bulletproof vest.

Authorities said the the incident happened around 11 a.m. at the Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School in Hempstead while students were registering for summer classes.
