Long Island Bus
On January 1, Long Island Bus, which is currently run by the MTA, will go private. But things are not going smoothly at this point.
The plan is for the company to take over Long Island Bus next January, but opponents argue the deal will mean higher fares and fewer bus routes.
Legislator Kevan Abrahams and transportation advocates want Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano to negotiate with the MTA.
Citing a lack of funds from Nassau County, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority may eliminate over half of Long Island Bus’ routes.
If Nassau County and the MTA don’t reach an agreement, thousands of Long Island Bus riders may have to start looking for a new way to get around come January.
