Long Island Marathon
Bomb-sniffing dogs and state troopers are on hand. There are officers on horseback and motorcycle along the route and police helicopters are also keeping an eye on things from the sky.
Hundreds of runners took off at the sound of the horn Saturday morning for the 5K run – part of the Long Island Marathon weekend.
The Five Boro Bike Tour, the New Jersey Marathon and the Long Island Marathon will all take place on Sunday. In an effort to keep participants and spectators safe, organizers from each event have stepped up their security measures.
