Gay Marriage Bill Passes New Jersey Senate, Heads To The Assembly

New Jersey lawmakers gave their blessing to legalizing gay marriage for the first time Monday as the state Senate passed a bill that would allow nuptials for same-sex couples, despite Gov. Chris Christie’s insistence that he will veto such legislation.

Senate Panel OKs Gay Marriage Bill; Gov. Christie Vows To Veto

The Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary committee forwarded the bill to the full Senate in an 8-4 party-line vote. Similar legislation failed in the Senate two years ago.
