New York City officials announced Wednesday they would open their clerks’ offices in all five boroughs for a full day July 24, saying gay couples should not be made to wait one day longer to wed.
In New York City, the pre-applications for a $35 license can be submitted online on the City Clerk’s web site only.
Gay and lesbian couples can legally begin pre-applying for a $35 marriage license starting July 5. On July 25, New York State will begin issuing those licenses.
The applause was deafening for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo who signed the bill into law. “I believe New York has sent a message to this nation loud and clear. It is time for marriage equality all across this country,” he said. Across the Hudson, however, Governor Chris Christie maintains his opposition to gay marriage.
