Officer Peter Figoski was shot and killed as officers interrupted the robbery of a drug dealer in Brooklyn.
Figoski’s mother held her hands over her mouth and cried Wednesday as Kevin Santos, 32, was found guilty of murder.
Morales did not fire the fatal shot, but prosecutors said he planned the armed robbery of a marijuana dealer who lived in his uncle’s basement. Under state law, if someone is killed during a felony, the person who committed that felony can also be charged with murder.
Jurors heard opening statements Wednesday in the trial of Nelson Morales, a suspect setting the wheels in motion for a robbery that ended with the fatal shooting of NYPD Officer Peter Figoski.
The alleged gunman, Lamont Pride, appeared in court while being shackled and didn’t speak as he faced the first-degree murder charge. His four co-defendants were also arraigned Tuesday evening.
